Take that guy-girl couples

What are we heterosexuals to do now? An Oregon county has taken the gay sex marriage issue to a whole new level, banning all marriages until the dispute is settled. Touche, my dear Oregon county, touche.

I mean save different sex, caucasian, Christians not being able to get married this must be Trent Lott, and his pals, wet dream. No interacial marriages, no gay marriages, no Jewish marriages, no arab marriages....

Chicago to pull a San Francisco?

Is Chicago about to follow San Francisco's lead in the battle for gay rights? Well...Pick up a Chicago Sun Times today and you will see in bold print that Mayor Daley has strong views on the subject. Yesterday at a City Hall news conference he had this to say:

"They're your doctors, your lawyers, your journalists, your politicians. They're someone's son or daughter. They're someone's mother or father. . . . I've seen people of the same sex adopt children, have families. [They're] great parents."
"Marriage has been undermined by divorce, so don't tell me about marriage. You're not going to lecture me about marriage. People should look at their own life and look in their own mirror. Marriage has been undermined for a number of years if you look at the facts and figures on it. Don't blame the gay and lesbian, transgender and transsexual community. Please don't blame them for it."

So, what does this mean? Well, not a great deal as the Mayor has no legal authority to issue marriage licenses in Cook County. That being said, Daley has stated that if County Clerk David Orr began issuing marriage licenses he would have no problem with it. Orr, on his part, had this to say:

"Whether or not, here in Cook County, we should be considering a San Francisco or other kind of protest, that is what some of us are discussing. I'm quite interested in exploring that with key players in the city and county. I'm already discussing that with a number of advocacy and key groups. I would like to discuss it with the mayor"

It is too soon to tell how this will end up, but it looks like the act of one Mayor may have really jump started the train towards equality for those seeking same sex marriages. Here is to hoping that it has.
