Kos and such
Yes, Kos said something stupid. He made an indefensible statement and then did the worst thing possible, tried to defend it. An obvious mistake and one that causes people, including myself, to lose respect for him. Getting paid to be somewhere shouldn't open you up to having your body hung from a bridge. If you think it should then you have some serious problems.
Can we now, at least the Democrats, move on though and talk about how Kerry actually reacted to the Fallujah attacks exactly how he should have:
"United in sadness, we are also united in our resolve that these enemies will not prevail"
This might very well be Kerry's first good soundbite, but currently it is lost in this battle over who can react to Kos' comments more.

[Update:] Since I have everybody's attention, can somebody please tell me what in the name of God Karen Hughes was thinking wearing this shirt on Meet the Press? A far better Wonkette post here. More about a lack of shirts than about an ugly shirt.

Yes, it was a good soundbyte. Sadly untrue, however. A quick review of several popular leftwing websites, or of the signs being carried at protests, indicates that quite a number of our own celebrate our setbacks and wish us failure. It's really getting out of hand. I'm no fan of George Bush, and might've been swayed to vote for Kerry, but considering the sickening things I've seen, heard, and read from the left lately, I've got too much dignity to say I voted for the same candidate as these people. I'll be holding my nose and voting for Mr. Bush.

Dave, if you are going to refuse to vote for Kerry just because of who else votes for him, I am curious how you could vote for Bush even with your nose plugs. Have you seen the parade of Nazis and other freaks who support him? Bush even got vocal support from the terrorist group that bombed the trains in Spain last month. And let's not forget the wierdos who support the third-party candidates. If this is how you decide for or against someone in an election, how can you vote for anybody?
I am of the opinion that candidates should stand (or fall) on their own merits, not based on who you would be associated with by voting for them.

let's face it, Kos' is a beeping idiot, but unremarkable. I mean, at what point do we start to admit to ourselves that Kos and his now-exposed attitudes, are not all that unusual on the left? This is nothing new; Kos and his comments are not at all unlike Fonda and her ilk..(Kerry included) wishing death and destruction on those fighting in 'nam.
Try as the left will to disconnect themselves from such people, they cannot; such people, such ideals, are the base of the left wing today. The sooner we can get to the point of admitting it, we can move on.
Pun intended.
And Kerry will not seperate himself from Kos for the same reason. THIS is the message we need to get out to the voter... the kind of vile non-thinking hatred the Democrats are driven by.

It's a shame that certain people feel justified in projecting from a few extremist blogs onto an entire group as a whole. Guilt by association is a favored tactic by people who have no rational argument.

This is a great example of how insulated the blogosphere has become. Most Americans have never heard of Kos, nor his comment.
I'd wager more heard Kerry's comment.

That is what I would have thought initially, but you wouldn't imagine how hard it was for me to locate that quote through Google. My guess is that a majority of Americans heard neither, but this "insulated" group heard only one side.
How would that quote escape people who read fifty newspaper articles a day from 20 different papers as well as reading multiple newsfeeds, but somehow get to the general public?
